Meet the Locals - Randle Beavis
We love to tell you what we love about the Shire of Northam, but to give you a real feel for the must-do magical experiences in the area, what better way to hear it than straight from the locals themselves?
Randle Beavis is a local company director and has lived in the Shire of Northam for over 60 years (his family on both sides for over 120!). Randle is an avid lover of where he lives, so we caught up with him to ask for his insights.
Favourite place in the Shire to spend time: View from the top of Mount Ommanney.
Check out the lookout which offers panoramic views of the Northam townsite. You can drive to the top, or take advantage of the challenging walk trails. Picnic benches available when you reach the top for a well-earned rest after the hike. Don't miss the grave of the late wife of Doc Burrows along one of the upper trails!
Favourite thing about living in the Shire of Northam: It has all the necessities and services required for a simple life style.
Northam is a regional centre with everything you need for a comfortable and relaxed lifestyle a short drive away from the city. From shopping precincts to industrial areas and medical care- we really do have it all!
Tell us about your favourite hidden treasure in the Shire: The drive along Katrine road is a cracker.
A drive along the beautiful Katrine Road towards Toodyay (especially during springtime) is one not to be missed- head out this way in the evenings for some truly spectacular views of the night sky.
What is a ‘must do’ experience if you are only here for one day? Visit the Bilya Koort Boodja building.
This state-of-the-art cultural centre celebrates and protects the local Ballardong Nyoongar culture, and is open all year to the public. Check out their interpretive display, join in one of their tours or workshops, or visit their gift shop. Memberships available.
