The Shire of Northam is pleased to announce the successful acquisition of an E-Waste Infrastructure Grant totalling $34,827.00 to construct an E-Shed at the Old Quarry Waste Management Facility.

New CCTV Camera Trial

In response to consistent feedback from the community highlighting the importance of safety in the Shire, we are launching a two-month trial of mobile CCTV units to improve security in the Shire of Northam. The first leased unit has been installed at the youth precinct, a known hotspot identified by our Community Safety Committee. After three weeks, the unit may be relocated to another area requiring surveillance.

Under the provisions of Section 46 of the Bushfires Act of the Chief Bush Fire Control Officer has enforced a fire ban within the Shire of Northam for 31/10/24, due to forecasted weather conditions. All Shire of Northam burning permits are cancelled an no burning is permitted for that 24 hour period. On Friday, a heartfelt gathering took place in Apex Park as Julie Head, along with Shire staff, Councillors, family, and friends, celebrated the unveiling of a memorial park bench dedicated to Ray Head. The bench, thoughtfully placed on the site of an old wishing well, holds special significance as it is in close proximity of where Julie and Ray captured their wedding photos.

Shire of Northam President, Chris Antonio, had the absolute pleasure of presenting our very first Northam Aquatic Season Pass for the 2024/25 swim season to local resident Rory Smith. Rory, one of our facility’s most positive and dedicated regulars, is eagerly counting down the days until he can throw on his swimwear and don his trusty goggles. He's all set to make a splash on opening day - 9am Monday, 16th September 2024.

Happy 2nd Birthday to the Old Quarry Road Transfer Station and Northam Re-Store! It's amazing to see how far we've come since the Shire of Northam and Avon Waste joined forces to launch this eco-friendly facility. Over the past 2 years, we've made great strides in source separation and significantly cut down on landfill waste. Huge thanks to our wonderful community for the ongoing support in making our environment healthier and more sustainable!

Road Safety Commissioner Adrian Warner visited Northam this morning to witness the unveiling of a cutting-edge AI-driven NON-enforcement Near Miss Camera, utilising cloud-based technology from the team at Lab3. Installed at the Fitzgerald Street and Gairdner Street intersection, this innovative camera will gather crucial data in real time to help improve road safety. Road Safety is funding the trial and this is the first time that the technology has been used in WA.

The Shire of Northam is one of 11 successful projects in WA to secure funding in the Club Night Lights Program (CNLP) through the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSC), to upgrade lighting or install new floodlights.
