The Shire of Northam wishes to advise that due to improved fire weather conditions the OPEN BURNING PERIOD is now in effect as of 12:00pm on 03 May 2024.

Shire of Northam President, Chris Antonio, had the absolute pleasure of presenting our very first Northam Aquatic Season Pass for the 2024/25 swim season to local resident Rory Smith. Rory, one of our facility’s most positive and dedicated regulars, is eagerly counting down the days until he can throw on his swimwear and don his trusty goggles. He's all set to make a splash on opening day - 9am Monday, 16th September 2024.
Get ready to make a splash with a season full of fun, fitness, and fantastic community events. The Northam Aquatic Facility will be opening its doors on Monday, 16th September 2024!
Nominations for the 2025 'Citizen of the Year Awards' are now open! These awards are about celebrating the spirit of community and the extraordinary efforts of individuals who go above and beyond. This is your chance to honour and acknowledge an outstanding volunteer, business owner, farmer, teacher, artist or community legend!
Work will commence the week starting Sunday 1 September on upgrades to the nbn Fixed Wireless network in Clackline and Wundowie for approximately a week. These upgrades will benefit many local households and businesses by providing access to faster speeds and extending the coverage of the existing nbn Fixed Wireless network.

Happy 2nd Birthday to the Old Quarry Road Transfer Station and Northam Re-Store! It's amazing to see how far we've come since the Shire of Northam and Avon Waste joined forces to launch this eco-friendly facility. Over the past 2 years, we've made great strides in source separation and significantly cut down on landfill waste. Huge thanks to our wonderful community for the ongoing support in making our environment healthier and more sustainable!

It brought our community together to honour and uplift Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, history, and achievements. Your commitment to celebrating and preserving our heritage ensures that the fire will continue to burn brightly for future generations.
Road Safety Commissioner Adrian Warner visited Northam this morning to witness the unveiling of a cutting-edge AI-driven NON-enforcement Near Miss Camera, utilising cloud-based technology from the team at Lab3. Installed at the Fitzgerald Street and Gairdner Street intersection, this innovative camera will gather crucial data in real time to help improve road safety. Road Safety is funding the trial and this is the first time that the technology has been used in WA.
The Shire of Northam are excited to be a part of the WA EV Network which provides EV drivers the opportunity to explore regional towns across our beautiful state with confidence. Works are scheduled to commence on 4 June 2024 at 2 Grey Street, Northam and are expected to take between 14 – 16 weeks. Please note this will not be continuous work throughout this period.

At the Water Corporation’s Waterwise Awards event this morning, the Shire of Northam received Gold status in two categories – Waterwise Council and Waterwise Aquatic Centre. The awarding of the Waterwise Council Gold status achieves one of the priority actions from Our Plan for the Future 2022-2032.

For the 2024 edition of the Northam Motorsport festival the Vintage Sports Car Club of WA (VSCC ) are paying homage to women in motorsport.
WALGA have announced a ground breaking project to transition 21 Local Governments in WA include the Shire of Northam to Electric Vehicles (EVs).
The Shire of Northam is one of 11 successful projects in WA to secure funding in the Club Night Lights Program (CNLP) through the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSC), to upgrade lighting or install new floodlights.

The meeting will consider the development application (ref: DAP/23/0535 - LG: P23011) for the proposed Hydrogen Plant at 131 Northam-York Road, Muluckine.
Please be advised the restricted burning period for the Shire of Northam is now in effect from 15th March 2024. Permits are available to primary producers only and are strictly for pre-season stubble burn.
