A significant development application for a new hydrogen generation facility and expansion of the existing solar farm in Muluckine near Northam has been received by the Western Australian Planning Commission (WAPC) under Part 11B of the Planning and Development Act 2005.

The Shire of Northam is committed to providing the community with regular updates on the number of complaints received and the timeframe for dealing with them.

The Shire of Northam are seeking Expressions of Interest (EOI) from enthusiastic local community members who would like to participate in a selection panel for the Northam 'High Achievers Recognition Program'. This program aims to acknowledge and celebrate individuals who have made significant contributions to the community within the Shire of Northam. The panel's primary task will be to shortlist nominations for Council. Selected winners will have the opportunity to be recognised as an inductee in the distinguished Walk of Fame.

The Shire of Northam has resolved to adopt the Shire of Northam Bush Fire Brigades Local Law 2024 at its Ordinary Council Meeting held on 20 November 2024. The purpose of the proposed Bush Fire Brigades Local Law 2024 is to make provisions about the establishment and organisation of bush fire brigades.

Please be advised that on 3rd and 4th December 2024, Water Corporation will be conducting work at the intersection of Gairdner and Selby Street.

Notice is hereby given for public information that the Shire of Northam, at its Ordinary Council Meeting held on the 20 November 2024, resolved to advertise the draft Local Planning Policy No. 27 – Tree Retention, for public comment in accordance with the provisions of Local Planning Scheme No. 6.

The Shire of Northam gives notice of its intention to impose the following fees and charges in accordance with Section 6.19 of the Local Government Act 1995 which will come into effect as of 4th December 2024:

The Shire of Northam is pleased to announce the successful acquisition of an E-Waste Infrastructure Grant totalling $34,827.00 to construct an E-Shed at the Old Quarry Waste Management Facility.

Notice is hereby given for public information and comment that the Shire of Northam has received an application to amend the Shire of Northam Local Planning Scheme No. 6 for the purpose of rezoning identified properties in the Wundowie town centre from Commercial to Rural Townsite to increase flexibility in permissible land uses in accordance with the objectives of the Northam Local Planning Strategy.

In response to consistent feedback from the community highlighting the importance of safety in the Shire, we are launching a two-month trial of mobile CCTV units to improve security in the Shire of Northam. The first leased unit has been installed at the youth precinct, a known hotspot identified by our Community Safety Committee. After three weeks, the unit may be relocated to another area requiring surveillance.

Council is seeking an Independent Member to sit on the Shire of Northam’s Audit and Risk Management Committee to enhance our commitment to transparency and accountability when dealing with financial and governance activities.

A Special Meeting of Council has been convened by the Shire President which will take place in the Shire of Northam Council Chambers, 395 Fitzgerald Street, Northam.

On Friday, a heartfelt gathering took place in Apex Park as Julie Head, along with Shire staff, Councillors, family, and friends, celebrated the unveiling of a memorial park bench dedicated to Ray Head. The bench, thoughtfully placed on the site of an old wishing well, holds special significance as it is in close proximity of where Julie and Ray captured their wedding photos.

With recent instances of missing/stolen bikes in the Shire of Northam, it’s time to protect your wheels! You can now register electric and power-assisted bikes, scooters, non-registerable off-road motorbikes, hand cycles, bike trailers, mobility scooters, and even unicycles on Bikelinc – as long as they have a unique serial number.

After a trial period, the Shire of Northam are thrilled to announce the launch of our new after-hours call service, designed to enhance customer experience and provide seamless support around the clock. After-hours calls will be directed to a trained team who will collect all relevant details and ensure that your information is passed onto the appropriate department for attention.

Pursuant to the powers contained in Section 33 of the Bush Fires Act 1954 (as amended), notice is hereby given to all owners and occupiers of land within the Shire of Northam of the adopted requirements as a measure to assist in the control of bush fires, or preventing the spread or extension of a bush fire which may occur within the Shire.

Shire of Northam President, Chris Antonio, had the absolute pleasure of presenting our very first Northam Aquatic Season Pass for the 2024/25 swim season to local resident Rory Smith. Rory, one of our facility’s most positive and dedicated regulars, is eagerly counting down the days until he can throw on his swimwear and don his trusty goggles. He's all set to make a splash on opening day - 9am Monday, 16th September 2024.

The Water Corporation are upgrading hydrants and valves in Northam to improve the security and reliability of the water network in town.  Works will take place at the intersection of Minson Avenue and Grey Street starting on Monday, 16 September. This project is anticipated to last for one week and will include some night-time works to ensure timely completion.

The quarantine area (QA) within metropolitan Perth has been extended as the spread of Polyphagous Shot-Hole Borer continues. Polyphagous shot-hole borer (PSHB) Euwallacea fornicatus is a beetle native to Southeast Asia. The beetle attacks a wide range of plants by tunnelling into trunks, stems and branches. Detection of PSHB is difficult as they are very small – about the size of a sesame seed.

Work will commence the week starting Sunday 1 September on upgrades to the nbn Fixed Wireless network in Clackline and Wundowie for approximately a week. These upgrades will benefit many local households and businesses by providing access to faster speeds and extending the coverage of the existing nbn Fixed Wireless network.

From 2023 to 2025 more plastic items, such as non-compostable produce bags, coffee cups, and takeaway containers, are being banned across Western Australia in an effort to reduce plastic pollution. • From 1 September 2024, plastic containers, bowls and trays used in eat-in or takeaway food services, and non-compostable produce bags for fresh fruit and vegetables, will be banned.

The Local Government Act 1995 s.3.12, requires the Shire of Northam to give public notice of the intent to enact the Bush Fire Brigade Local Law 2024. The purpose of the proposed Bush Fire Brigades Local Law 2024 is to make provisions about the establishment and organisation of bush fire brigades. The effect of the proposed Bush Fire Brigades Local Law 2024 is to align the Shire of Northam Bushfire Brigades Local Law with legislative requirements under the Bush Fires Act 1954 and operational practice.
