Native Tree Subsidy Program
The Shire of Northam is working with Westgrow Farm Trees to provide a selection of native trees and shrubs for landowners to plant on their property as part of the Shire’s Native Tree Subsidy Program. This program has been developed to encourage landowners to revegetate their properties to enhance and support biodiversity by improving the landscape quality. As the trees and shrubs establish, residents taking advantage of this program will be able to enjoy the benefits of increased shade, reductions in ambient temperature whist providing food, shelter and corridor connections between vegetation pockets for native animals.
During the months of May and June, landowners within the Shire of Northam with a property size over 2000m2 have the opportunity to purchase trays of native trees for the discounted price of $25 (more than 50% OFF!!). Trays available at this price will be allocated based on property size as indicated in the table provided.

HOW DO YOU COLLECT YOUR TREES?
The program will be running from the nursery at the “old” Operations Centre located on Peel Terrace on the following days:
- Thursday 20 June 2024 10am - 1pm
- Friday 21 June 2024 10am - 1pm
- Saturday 22 June 2024 10am - 1pm
Landowners will be able to pay and collect their trees at the same time.
Trays will cost $25 and payment can be made by cash or EFTPOS.
As required in previous years, landowners will need to provide proof of residency and details will be recorded to assist in designing similar programs in the future.
Limited trays of these varieties are available and will be allocated on a first come basis for purchase.
Selections available include a variety of species that are suitable for different soil types and species that can be grown to serve multiple purposes including hedges, windbreaks, shade, bird attracting, bee attracting, ornamental use and those that are salt tolerant. Each tray holds 64 tube stock plants and landowners will be able to select one species for each tray.
Landowners taking advantage of this tree subsidy will need to be mindful of the species they select to ensure they are appropriate for the property size and that the trees at maturity are clear from impeding on neighbouring properties, existing services and/or firebreaks.
