DRAFT LOCAL PLANNING POLICY AVAILABLE FOR INSPECTION
The Shire of Northam has prepared the following draft Local Planning Policy and public comments are invited:
Local Planning Policy No.24 – Outbuildings in the Rural Residential, Rural Smallholding and Rural Zones.
The purpose of the Policy is to provide development controls for the construction of residential outbuildings in the ‘Rural Residential’, ‘Rural Smallholding’ and ‘Rural’ zones as identified by the Scheme.
The primary objectives of this Policy are to:
- Recognise the unique characteristics of rural residential development within the Shire as it relates to outbuilding size and construction;
- Provide Acceptable Development standards for outbuildings in rural residential areas; and
- Ensure that constructed outbuildings are not utilised for unapproved purposes.
A copy of the draft Policy is available for inspection at the Shire’s Administrative Centre located at 395 Fitzgerald Street, Northam. Comments on the draft policy may be submitted to the Shire in writing on or before the 19th day of April 2017. Note: This Policy has been designed to replace Shire of Northam Local Planning Policy No.1 – Outbuildings. After the expiry of the period within which submissions may be made, Shire staff will review the draft Policy in light of any submissions made and make a recommendation to the Council of the Shire of Northam. If the Council resolves to proceed with the Policy (with or without modification), the Shire’s current Local Planning Policy No.1 – Outbuildings will be rescinded.
