New CCTV Camera Trial

Published on Monday, 11 November 2024 at 1:12:13 PM

In response to consistent feedback from the community highlighting the importance of safety in the Shire, we are launching a two-month trial of mobile CCTV units to improve security in the Shire of Northam. The first leased unit has been installed at the youth precinct, a known hotspot identified by our Community Safety Committee. After three weeks, the unit may be relocated to another area requiring surveillance.

The second unit will arrive at the end of the month and is set to be deployed at the Inkpen Waste Management Facility. If successful, these units could become a permanent part of our CCTV fleet to combat antisocial behaviour and address public safety.

Shire President Chris Antonio, along with Deputy President Attila Mencshelyi and Councillor Julie Williams, who chairs the Community Safety Committee, attended a presentation showcasing the camera's impressive array of features.

This initiative aligns with the Shire's recently adopted CCTV Strategy.
