On Friday, a heartfelt gathering took place in Apex Park as Julie Head, along with Shire staff, Councillors, family, and friends, celebrated the unveiling of a memorial park bench dedicated to Ray Head. The bench, thoughtfully placed on the site of an old wishing well, holds special significance as it is in close proximity of where Julie and Ray captured their wedding photos.

Shire of Northam President, Chris Antonio, had the absolute pleasure of presenting our very first Northam Aquatic Season Pass for the 2024/25 swim season to local resident Rory Smith. Rory, one of our facility’s most positive and dedicated regulars, is eagerly counting down the days until he can throw on his swimwear and don his trusty goggles. He's all set to make a splash on opening day - 9am Monday, 16th September 2024.

The Water Corporation are upgrading hydrants and valves in Northam to improve the security and reliability of the water network in town.  Works will take place at the intersection of Minson Avenue and Grey Street starting on Monday, 16 September. This project is anticipated to last for one week and will include some night-time works to ensure timely completion.

The quarantine area (QA) within metropolitan Perth has been extended as the spread of Polyphagous Shot-Hole Borer continues. Polyphagous shot-hole borer (PSHB) Euwallacea fornicatus is a beetle native to Southeast Asia. The beetle attacks a wide range of plants by tunnelling into trunks, stems and branches. Detection of PSHB is difficult as they are very small – about the size of a sesame seed.

From 2023 to 2025 more plastic items, such as non-compostable produce bags, coffee cups, and takeaway containers, are being banned across Western Australia in an effort to reduce plastic pollution. • From 1 September 2024, plastic containers, bowls and trays used in eat-in or takeaway food services, and non-compostable produce bags for fresh fruit and vegetables, will be banned.

The Local Government Act 1995 s.3.12, requires the Shire of Northam to give public notice of the intent to enact the Bush Fire Brigade Local Law 2024. The purpose of the proposed Bush Fire Brigades Local Law 2024 is to make provisions about the establishment and organisation of bush fire brigades. The effect of the proposed Bush Fire Brigades Local Law 2024 is to align the Shire of Northam Bushfire Brigades Local Law with legislative requirements under the Bush Fires Act 1954 and operational practice.
